The first week of August Sally did a singing camp that was entitled Shine; she still has a deep man voice when she sings and speaks but she loves it. She has come a long way from her first camp a couple of years ago. The director really likes her and she is doing good. The singing company that she is a part of created a book this past year and our director submitted Sallys name to be in the book and she got selected. I sent in a picture or Sally and she is drawn in the book. You cannot see her face but its fun to be included.
The third week of August my husband had surgery down in Utah at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. He needed to have his thyroid removed. We drove down on a Wednesday afternoon; Teddy stayed home so it was just us and the girls. We stayed in a hotel and made it to the hospital Thursday morning. He had to be there at 11 and we got checked in and then the girls and I left and went to a few different places.
We first found a trampoline park and they played for a couple of hours. This place was in a old grocery store and was much bigger than the ones around our area. We got there and it was toddler time but they let us in and we just stayed away from the little ones. I sat in a massage chair for an hour and then just watched them. We then hit up a few thrift stores and got smoothies. I got a call from the doctor around 3 and he said to come to the hospital in a hour.
We made it to the hospital around 4:15. We were in the waiting room for a little while when the family liaison came out and said the doctors are usually wrong and do not know the full time. She was a very sweet lady and got the girls a few things to play with; she also got them a blanket. Around 6:30 a nurse came out and said they were just waiting for a room and if we wanted to get dinner, we needed to go up to the cafeteria and get something to eat. The girls got cheeseburgers and I got a chicken sandwich.
We finished around 7 and went back to the waiting room. At 7:30 they came out and said they had a room but it was shift change and it would be a little longer. We ended up going up to the room and they brought him in around 8; it was a long day but he made it through and we did too. They also said that the surgery was not as invasive as they thought and depending on the night, he would be able to maybe go home on Friday. My girls were a little sad because we thought we were going to be in Utah all weekend and we had planned a few things to do. We decided to leave and go to my aunts to sleep and then hear back in the morning.
Well, the next
morning my husband called and said he was going to be released and he wanted to
go home and not stay in Utah for the girls to do their activities. My mother
was in town visiting my grandpa, so Friday morning, we went down and visited
them and then went up and picked up my husband and drove home. He has a nasty
scar on his upper chest, but the doctors were able to get the whole thyroid out
without having to go into his chest cavity and they were pleased with the
results. We found out later that the thyroid had undetected caner in it, and it
was good we did the surgery when we did and nothing is left. So that is good.
Teddy
convinced me to take him to a BYU football game, and I convinced him to let
Macy come. We headed down to Utah the end of August and it turned out to be a
nice trip. The game was on Saturday evening; we left in the afternoon and we
got there in plenty of time. We stayed at my aunts house that night and then
Sunday we went to Lagoon; I was worried that I was not going to fit on the
rides but it worked out okay. The first rollercoaster that we went on the lap
bar almost did not come all the way down but in the end it did and so did all
the other rides; it was a nice day. Macy was brave and rode all the rides and
Teddy had fun.
