Finding an OBGYN

I needed to find an OBGYN in Utah. Its funny that this was one of the things that scared me the most. I knew I was going to miss our Doctor from Florida and knew it was going to be hard trying to find someone here. I fretted over it for a few weeks and I called around to numerous places. I just could not commit to a place. I called the place where Cintia, my friend was going but they were booked out for a few months and I really wanted to get seen before the Christmas break. I called the office where my sister Tiffani had gone with her first child but they were not accepting new patients; I was bummed since I had a strong feeling that was going to be the place. I also wanted to deliver the baby at Orem Community Hospital, which is the smallest of the three and the only hospital where you stay in the same room for the labor, delivery and post care.

Also something that did no appeal to me was that most of the doctor offices in Utah have like 5-10 doctors at the practice and you see all of them during the pregnancy and although I think you choose one to be your OB, you could get anyone of them to deliver the baby if they are the ones on call. So that was something I was trying to avoid

I found an office called Valley OB; they have numerous offices in the Valley…I looked at the doctors in the American Fork office, the Orem Midwife group and the Provo Office. Only the midwife group delivered at Orem but I was not convinced that I wanted to go with a midwife. In my mind I thought they only delivered at birthing centers or at home and I knew I wanted to get an epidural and also with my history of the high blood pressure, swelling and preeclampsia I wanted the doctor setting. I now know that these midwives do deliver at hospitals and can have an epidural and I think work with the doctors at the offices to be sure of things, but I was not settled at that time, so I decided to look at the Provo office and deliver at Utah Valley.

I was looking through the doctors when I came across a doctor that was part of the Valley OB but she ran the Provo Women’s Care (Not part of the Provo Office although she was housed in the same building) and it was just her. I would see her each visit and she would deliver; this sounded good to me. She was younger than all the other doctors and had only been practicing for a few years but it felt at the time the right way to go. I met with Dr. Andrews for the first time right before Christmas which was around 12 weeks along. After the first visit, I still felt a little uneasy but ready to go forward =)
